Chapter 1513 Advanced Humans?
Chapter 1513 Advanced Humans?
A flash of cold light appeared in his hand, the blade tore through the air, and with a chilling arc of light, it swiftly slashed towards the opponent's neck!
This strike was swift, ruthless, and cunning, effectively blocking the opponent's best angle to block or retreat.
However, what happened next made Chen Jun's pupils suddenly contract!
Faced with this fatal blow, the short, stout man didn't dodge or evade! He didn't even make a full parrying motion; he merely raised his right hand seemingly casually at the moment the blade touched his body—
"Snapped!"
A crisp, metallic clang rang out!
That chubby, even slightly dirty hand, with its five fingers spread wide, precisely and firmly grasped the incredibly sharp blade! The blade cut deep into the flesh of his palm, and blood immediately trickled down between his fingers and along the blade, dripping into the dust on the ground.
But the man's expression remained unchanged. There was no spasm of pain, no surprise, not even a furrowed brow. It was as if it wasn't his own hand that had been cut. He merely tilted his head slightly, looking at Chen Jun's cold, stern face behind the knife, a hint of mockery and... a kind of inhuman indifference flashing in those murky eyes.
Chen Jun exerted force with his arm, but the blade seemed welded to his opponent's hand, remaining completely still. He decisively released his grip, took a small half-step back to create distance, and stared intently at his opponent's bleeding but numb hand and that strange look in his eyes.
"You are... a cyborg?" Chen Jun's voice was deep, filled with scrutiny and cold vigilance.
"A cyborg?" The short, stout man grinned, revealing teeth stained yellow from smoking. His voice remained unpleasant. "No, no, no. General Chen, your understanding is outdated. I am a 'higher-level human.'" He emphasized the term, casually tossing the cleaver, stained with his own blood, onto the ground with a clatter, as if throwing away trash. He shook the blood off his hands; the wound didn't seem deep, and the bleeding was slowing. "We shouldn't use such a low-level term as 'cyborg.' We are evolution, perfect evolution."
Chen Jun glanced outside the building; the men in black had indeed obeyed and not entered, only sealing off the outer perimeter. He temporarily suppressed the idea of an immediate assault; he needed to understand the strangeness surrounding them. He sneered, "A cyborg is a cyborg. No matter how glamorous the disguise, it can't change its inhuman nature. 'Advanced human'? Self-deception."
“You’re wrong, General Chen.” The short, stout man wasn’t angry. Instead, he spoke in an almost “science-explaining” tone, tinged with superiority. “I am indeed human. Only, a more advanced and perfect being on the path of evolution. You can call me an ‘advanced evolved being,’ or… a ‘new human.’” He looked Chen Jun up and down, his gaze sharpening. “Besides, General Chen, don’t you also possess abilities far beyond those of ordinary people? Your skills, your reflexes, even… your incredible achievements. Aren’t you also considered an ‘evolved being’?”
Chen Jun shook his head expressionlessly: "I'm human. I've been trained, I have some talent, that's all." His gaze swept over the other man's ridiculous gray suit and slovenly appearance, but his vigilance rose to its peak. What kind of "advanced human" is this? His appearance and behavior were anything but "advanced," but the physical strength, pain shielding, and eerie composure he displayed when he caught a blade bare-handed were anything but ordinary.
“I know you, Chen Jun.” The short, stout man began pacing, as if this were his living room, not a battlefield. “Chief Instructor of the Yan Kingdom’s three armed forces, President of the National Academy of Sciences, Chief Weapon Designer… Oh, right, and recently, the rising star 'miracle doctor'? You even conquered cancer, right?” He rattled off the titles with an air of control and amusement. “Look, of all these identities and abilities you possess, which one belongs to an 'ordinary person'? You’re practically at the pinnacle of humanity, a 'higher-level human.'”
He stopped and turned to face Chen Jun, a fanatical yet icy light gleaming in his cloudy eyes: "General Chen, let me tell you, truly advanced humans are men like gods. We possess power, transcending mortal understanding. Stop judging us by those mediocre, ordinary moral and emotional standards. Ordinary life..." He paused, a cruel smile spreading across his lips, "...is like an ant to us. Does life or death have any meaning? No. Only evolution, only transcendence, are the eternal themes."
He leaned forward slightly, his voice low and seductive: "You must have this feeling, right? The feeling of being above all living beings. Join us in the 'Abyss,' General Chen. This is your true home. Together, we can open the door to a new era of human evolution. Why bind your godlike power for the sake of those ants?"
Chen Jun listened quietly, his face showing no sign of being persuaded. Instead, it was as if he had heard the most absurd joke in the world. He chuckled softly, a laugh devoid of warmth, filled only with deep mockery and contempt.
"You invited me?" He slowly shook his head, his gaze piercing the other person like an icy blade. "I'm sorry. I, Chen Jun, am human from head to toe, inside and out. I have flesh and blood, love and hate, family and compatriots to protect, and evils that must be eradicated. We may be powerful, but power is never for dominating, but for protecting. And you..."
His voice suddenly rose, clear and firm, like a tolling death knell, echoing through the abandoned buildings, carrying an undeniable sense of judgment:
"They're nothing but a bunch of inhuman, self-righteous lunatics! Monsters disguised as 'evolution'! Do they even deserve to be called human?"
